Christian, your explanation makes a lot of sense.  Thanks.

I don't know if anybody here is an expert in mutt code.   My gut feeling
is that it should be too hard to add this feature, provided you know
where to mess.  I'd appreciate if anyone who has an idea shed some
light here. 

I will try to start this thread in mutt-devel mailing list.
