I am confused then.  Can someone tell me exactly what was put in
Michael's muttrc file to list those two directories?  I have been
using something like "mailboxes =<directory>" and mutt is not showing
the "N" flag for directories.

Here is what would show up in browsing mode:

15     drwxrwxr-x  2 jsun     jsun         4096 Sep 01 22:45 lists/

My mutt version is 1.4.1.
