To be honest, I never really considered that one :-(

I guess you can use the tag-conditional (or whatever it's called) patch,
and macro 'r' to reply if any messages are tagged, or noop otherwise.

I tend to find Mutt remarkably capable of behaving nicely even when
other MUAs don't.  Obviously there are some rough edges, and, of course,
you keep discovering them for some reason ;-)
