Earlier ssh versions required 'ControlMaster [yes|no|ask]' in
~/.ssh/config; versions >=4.2 should work (see below).
~ % ssh -V

~ % uname -a
OpenBSD merkur.atekomi.net 3.8 GENERIC#0 i386
~ % egrep -IHn -B 1 Control .ssh/config
