[newbie?] failure copying messages

Maybe this is a terrible newbie question, and I should read the f
manual, but I encountered a strange problem using the copy-message
command.

When I try to copy a message from my spool file (/var/mail/debrugh) or
mbox (~/Mail/mbox) to another mbox (e.g. ~/Mail/mutt) most messages are
not appended, but some are. Like when I try to move all email from this
mailing list (the only one I'm subscribed to here at work) I do: T ~l C
=mutt. Then I look into =mutt, and only one or two messages are
actually appended (I also checked the file with vi, they're really not
there). Last time, mutt only copied the message from Sören Edzen,
message ID <20041116213423.GA15251@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>.

Permissions seem to be correct:
debrugh@pinkfloyd:~$ls -l Mail/mutt
-rw-r--r-- 1 debrugh sra 26164 Nov 17 11:01 Mail/mutt

I know I should use procmail for filtering messages, but that's not
real solution because I also often get other messages (like seminar
announcements) which I like to move to a different mbox, and which are
very hard to filter based on subject or sender.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

N.
