I don't know anything about the particular quirks of "fastmail" as 
opposed to any other smtp server, but if they automatically save your 
sent mail into a folder for you, then you probably don't need to save 
them manually (before you turn it off, I'd recommend verifying that 
they do automatically save copies, and that it isn't just that you're 
posting messages to mailing lists which then send you back a copy).
