However you can no longer do a "limit" easily in such a virtual folder,
because a "limit" will cancel the previous one.

That's why I finally stored all my archives in one single maildir
mailbox. The main problem is that opening it is very slow, in
particular under Mac OS X. But I can often create a virtual folder
with mairix first (this is very fast), then do the necessary "limit"
in it.
