This is a typical problem when going between Xterms on different 
systems. There are a couple quick solutions:

1. press control and left-click on your xterm, and select "Backarrow
    Key (BS/DEL)"

2. type `stty erase ` and then ctrl-v and then hit backspace, then hit
    enter
