In this solution space, you can also build or download VMware "Virtual
Appliances" for this kind of thing.  A virtual appliance is basically a
disk image and VMware config bundle that can be run under VMware player,
portably, on any Windows or Linux system.  A number of such appliances
are downloadable from http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/appliances/ , and
VMware player is free.

Actually, it looks like Damn Small Linux is available as a VMware player
appliance: http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/appliances/directory/11
