Yes, if debugging is enabled.  Execute 'mutt -v'.  If the output
contains "+DEBUG", mutt was built with debugging enabled and you're
set to go.  If instead it contains "-DEBUG", you'll either have to
rebuild mutt or try some other technique.

Assuming you have debugging enabled, start mutt as 'mutt -d2'.  Then
in another shell, execute 'tail -0f .muttdebug0', which will show
you the debug messages as they are generated.  When you try to
display a jpeg attachment, a message similar to the following HTML
example should appear in the debug output:

    Checking mailcap file: /home/garyjohn/.mutt/mailcap-1.4i
    mailcap entry: text/html; w3m %s; nametemplate=%s.html
    field: nametemplate=%s.html
