Why in Xterm? Except of this requirement, I would recommend evim ("easy
mode" of gvim when started with evim command).

shift-ins to paste? I know only few people that use this bindings, most
know only ctrl-x, ctrl-v. And evim supports all that except of shift-ins
(ctrl-v instead).

evim does not let you do such things if you do not know the "magic key"
(ctrl-l).
