    as far as I can tell from the first page on google, ssmtp.exe is
    a nullmailer bundled with cygwin. I don't know how you managed to
    run it in Linux, but hey...

    since you don't seem to be getting any bounces (which would indicate
    the cause of the failure), here goes the obvious question: what does
    ssmtp log? (don't ask me for the location of its log file if it has
    any at all)
