I have it setup on my box where I aggregate a few of my IMAP accounts into
one and use colors and alternates to help handle the two accounts but as a
single local maildir.

Another solution that I use on my laptop is using a tiny but great python
app called "offlineimap" that has the ability to sync one or more IMAP accounts
creating a local set of maildirs and will even update your mailboxes list in
mutt automatically.

It has a ton of advanced features that make it a much better (IMHO) alternative
for
checking IMAP accounts than just using mutt's built-in IMAP support or
fetchmail. I
have no problems syncing all folders on each IMAP server. Just bind the f key
to offlineimap to sync while in mutt.
