How to re-format badly formatted emails?

Dear all,

I am using mutt and vim to write my emails. For quite obvious
reasons, I have been using usenet-style to write and reply emails.

Quite often, people send emails and replies that are very badly
formatted. For this reason, I set up such an email style guide on one
of my web-pages <http://www.rawip.org/style.html>. At the beginning,
I referred people to this page -- meanwhile I am tired of this
referring.

So, I decided to reformat emails as good as I can, which is tedious
job itself. To help me myself, I decided to ask the community here
for hints on how others tackle this problem in a 'professional' way.

I hope to get some ideas on how to improve my approach. Thanks in
advance for a fruitful discussion!

wbr,
Lukas
