My .muttrc configuration does not set sendmail so it should be using
the default. Anyway, this problem is hard to trace and I have been
tired of testing all the mail clients/servers, especially when I do
not know how the sysadmins configure the mal/SMTP server.
Anyway, even if this dot problem only happens at rare and strange
circumstances, I would suggest that mutt encode all text attachments.
Pine's approach may not be optimal but at least it ensures correct
transmission of files. (And as you suggested, using quoted encoding,
attachments can still be searched.)
