    4 states:

 · All linked (default).
 · Break when references lack.
 · Break when subject changes.
 · All broken.

    I believe each case makes sense. And let's not forget $sort_re
finetunes cases 1 and 3. Hum... Quadoptions ask-yes-no are not suitable,
probably a separate bolean is more. As name, well, why not something
totally cryptic and illogical as $new_subject_breaks_threads (this name
comes from Slrn)?

    I think I would be using setting 3 on well-bahaving lists, and
default 1 where an evil [TAG] or such disturbs subjects too much.


    BTW: Once upon a time this wish #1128 was merged with #222. This
last one disappeared on Gnats, but its report is in audit trail of
mutt/1128. Is it intended? Should #222 submitter, who is not in
"interested parties", be CCed?
