Take little text note(s) for a given name (or address, or domain).
Then display this note when reading a mail from the guy. Or before
replying him. Or better just display something indicating a note exists,
and display the note on demand.
Something as "helped me with HPUX issues", "owes me a beer", or
"waits I finish that patch" you may like to be reminded 3 years later.
