I don't seem to get that. With your test message from the start of the
thread I get "v?x", but with the same message vi-ed to have cp1255
instead of windows-1258 I get "v?ux", with my patch and glibc's iconv.

I found it had to be "cp1255" rather than "cp-1255", by the way.
