Who owns the mutt process?

When I installed mutt on my RH9 Linux box, I did not specify the
owner/group that the mutt process should run as. I now think that this was
a mistake. Can someone please tell me how I can remedy this (I'm assuming
there is a configuration file...)? Also, should the login shell be
"/sbin/nologin" as is the "mail" application?

thanks in advance
