    This was a test, not a correct setting advice. Better unset LC_ALL,
and set LC_CTYPE to a value suited for your language, country and
charset picked in output of "locale -a" (perhaps en_US.ISO8859-1).

    BTW Paul is right, there must be a bug hidden somewhere. Don't know
where, but seems unclearly linked with some systems (Cygwin, now
NetBSD 1.6.1), some versions of system and Mutt combined, no locale LANG
nor LC_CTYPE nor LC_ALL setting, or bad setting of those, and appearance
of some chars in a displayed mail. Very inconsistent as, example,
upgrading Mutt to 1.5.4 will solve the problem for one guy, but make it
worse for another guy... Sometimes it's not a crash, but a truncated
display.

    Default English language and US-Ascii charset.
