Huh? I have:

    subscribe '^mutt-users@mutt\.org$'

in my muttrc, and the list works great for me. I can see the name of 
the author in the index view and everything. If it helps, my 
index_format is:

    "%4C %Z %{%b %d} %-15.15n %?l?{%4l}&(%4c)? %?M?[%M]> &?%s"
