mutt hangs after writing long mail

Hi!

I use mutt with an imap mailbox (it is an courier-imap-ssl server at the
other end), and reply mails there which I edit in vim.
After closing vim mutt comes back to await the final "y" to actually
send it.
But when I write mails taking a long time (half an hour or so) vim
closes but mutt doesn't seem to come back, black screen with the
shellprompt showing that I invoked mutt from there.

How can one fix this?
