A stupid thought popped into my head when you mentioned threading (how
web archives have threaded has always bugged me).  Why have a web
based archive at all.

Why not have a publically accessible IMAP archive so that you could
interface sort/thread/search right in mutt.  Split it up into
mailboxes by month like most web archives do and you wouldn't have too
much of index lag...

Like I said, it's probably just a stupid idea.
