Status and X-Status are specific to the mbox format: They are not
added to Maildir. Futhermore we have to use them in a standard way:
Flags are compatible with all other mailers and tools managing mboxes.
It could be difficult to add there a Mutt private info, without
disturbing other tools, and still making sure that those infos don't get
stripped.

If we really wanted to permanently modify the mail, then the natural
way would be to add an appropriate x-action parameter to the
"Content-Type: text/plain" header (just like the inline mails generated
by Mutt since version 1.5.1).

Some years ago many people used to make such permanent
modifications, via procmail rules. This was ugly, and triggered many
problems, especially with charsets. But at the time this was the only
solution to automatically decode trad-PGP. Today $pgp_auto_decode is
expected to do the job on the fly, cleanly, and without any risk to lose
data.

Bye! Alain.
