You did know that Mutt is one of the most configurable mail clients in existence, and lets you turn off features you don't want to use, didn't you? Yes people, it's true... Mutt lets you turn off stuff you don't want to use. And in fact, it offers the ability to compile Mutt without a number of features, if you REALLY don't want them. That makes both the spyware argument COMPLETELY INVALID, and largely (but not completely) invalidates the bloat argument too (it doesn't nullify the maintenance side of the argument, but I already more than adequately did that elsewhere). > And in business environments you will probably get in far more trouble > with mutt besides missing the notification options. Mutt doesn’t support > any groupware features like calendar. I have used Mutt in every business environment I've worked in for the last 10 years, ranging from stodgy medical companies to technology start-ups. I wouldn't say it's always been smooth sailing (mostly the resistance was from IT mail folks, when my group was not the same group as the mail group), but I haven't had any major trouble interacting with business folks (there are other apps that do all of the things you mention)... I guess that makes me some kind of super-genius or something. But still, I want my mailer to do everything related to the normal processing of mail, mostly without any fuss from me. I should only have to make a fuss if what I want to do is unusual -- which this isn't. I'm not in desperate need of this feature, but I feel strongly that it belongs in any mailer that takes itself seriously, and I probably would turn it on (at work) if it were available. -- Derek D.
