What I do in situations like that is I set up $sendmail to be
$HOME/.sendmail.sh and then in that script, I have something like
this:
#!/bin/sh
if [ $ARCH == "solaris" ] ; then
exec /path/to/solaris/sendmail "$@"
else if [ $ARCH == "Linux" ] ; then
exec /path/to/linux/sendmail "$@"
fi
Hope that helps,
