Weird character in From: causes mutt to not extract reply address?

Greetings,

I'm running mutt 1.5.11 (2005-09-15). When I receive a message from a
particular Hotmail user, mutt seems unable to correctly extract his address
from the From: header when I try to reply.

The incoming From: header, copied and pasted, is:

  From: "Matej Ostovi\uffff" <trancedeejay@xxxxxxxxxxx>

`od` says the octal byte representation of that line is:

  0000000 106 162 157 155 072 040 042 115 141 164 145 152 040 117 163 164
  0000020 157 166 151 346 042 040 074 164 162 141 156 143 145 144 145 145
  0000040 152 141 171 100 150 157 164 155 141 151 154 056 143 157 155 076
  0000060 012

I'm not a Unicode/locale guru. Is the above valid? I don't think so (as I
thought all non-ASCII chars in headers had to be encoded), but I was hoping
for confirmation.
