sendmail=procmail ignores default=in

Hello,

when I set sendmail=/usr/bin/procmail the default mailbox assignment
DEFAULT=in (in ~/.procmailrc) is ignored.
However when procmail is called during a fetchmail session
DEFAULT=in is honored.
How can I make procmail honor the DEFAULT=in assignment when called
from mutt?
