As I said in an earlier post, the problem was in my MTA. You didn't
see it because I post to the list from my home system, and the problem
only appeared on my work system.

As far as I can tell, the MTA (ssmtp) ripped out my From: line and
generated a new one from data in /etc/passwd. They were sufficiently
similar that I didn't notice until I really started digging into it.
