mutt on an xterm with more colors?

Hi!

I'm using an xterm with 88 colors (basically the same XFree86's
xterm, built with --enable-88-color --disable-bold-color
--enable-tcap-query passed to configure)
<http://dickey.his.com/xterm/xterm.html>

I got this from vim (:help xterm-color) and works fine in
vim after setting TERM to xterm-88color. Now I have access
to more colors and can use them like so:
color1, color2, color3 ... color88

In mutt, however, I can only access color0 through color7.
Trying any other color gives the following:

Error in /home/fernan/.muttrc, line 158: 17: color not supported by term

Of course I can also use names, in which case I can obtain
an extra 8 colors by using 'bright' colors: brightcyan,
brightyellow, etc. Which, at least for me, they look like
the same color, but in bold.

Is it possible for mutt to use more than 16 colors? I've
tried building mutt with both ncurses and slang and have
always seen the same message. Anyone out there tried this?

Thanks in advance,

Fernan
