Pgp error (pgps: command not found)

Hello List:

    I've installed a pgp key, using gpg on Red Hat 9.0. Files were
auto-installed at ~/.gnupg/ and set an env variable as
PGPPATH=~/.gnupg/

files there at that path are:
gpg.conf  pubring.gpg  random_seed  secring.gpg  trustdb.gpg
gpg.conf is unedited.

/usr/local/doc/mutt/samples/pgp5.rc was copied as
~/.pgp5rc
the following line:
source ~/.pgp5rc
was placed in .muttrc and mutt was restarted.

When I attempt to ad my key with an email, choosing
(s)sign, I get the following errormessage:

sh: line 1: pgps: command not found
cat: write error: Broken pipe

What else do I need to do?
thanks
tj
