    AFAICS mcedit doesn't care about locale: It only uses the mc
"Display bits" settings.

    Depending on your terminal's charset you may want to change output
to "ISO 8859-1". But "Full 8 bits output" is already good.

    Hum... Just in case: Rename temporarily /etc/mc/mc.ini and
~/.mc/ini, and restart mc configuration from scratch.


    If this doesn't help, please describe more precisely things like "I
can not use umlaute", or "does not work anymore".
