opening pdf attachments

Some pdf attachments I receive under mutt (on Sun/solaris),
I can immediately view by doing return on the appropriate line describing the
attachment: it opens the pdf file in acroread.
With some other pdf attachments this lets me only view the code.

For instance, here is the start of a pdf attachment which did not open
in a proper way:

--=====001_Dragon154418242456_=====
Content-Type: application/octet-stream;
        name="ZhanLiang-Resume(general).pdf"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-Disposition: attachment;
        filename="ZhanLiang-Resume(general).pdf"

ICB4cmVmDTIyMiA1MSANMDAwMDAwMDAxNiAwMDAwMCBuDQowMDAwMDAxMzcxIDAwMDAwIG4NCjAw

Then I saved the attachment as pdf file and mailed that file to myself as
attachment. When this mail arrived, I could open the attachment in acroread
from within mutt in the proper way as described above.
Here is the start of the pdf attachment as I
had received it when I mailed it as attachment to myself:

--3MwIy2ne0vdjdPXF
Content-Type: application/pdf
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="zhanliang.pdf"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64

JVBERi0xLjMNJeLjz9MNCjIyMiAwIG9iag08PCANL0xpbmVhcml6ZWQgMSANL08gMjI1IA0v
SCBbIDE4NDYgMzQwIF0gDS9MIDUyNDg0IA0vRSAxOTI2MCANL04gMiANL1QgNDc5MjUgDT4+
IA1lbmRvYmoNICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAgICAg
ICAgICAgICAgICB4cmVmDTIyMiA1MSANMDAwMDAwMDAxNiAwMDAwMCBuDQowMDAwMDAxMzcx

So the Content-Type was originally given as application/octet-stream,
but the filename with .pdf suffis is also given there.
and the second time as application/pdf

Is there a way around that I can open all received pdf attachments
from within mutt?
