...and some bug (don't know the number ... is it even "known?") makes
sure that you need to reopen the box before your index will show the
L for list messages, so simply "source"ing the file won't do the trick
immediately ;-)

Your best bet is to have your muttrc source the file for you.

If you want your lists to have friendly aliases, names, etc., check out
my makenewlistsrc script [1].  It uses a data file [2] not unlike your
attempt above to describe lists, and produces an RC file [3] that's
ready for "source"ing by your muttrc.
