1) I agree that munging the Subject: line is a Bad Thing
2) I'm not a real fan of automated mail manging on receipt, though.
3) For lists that do this to my I just change my index_format string:
bash-2.05a$ grep index_f .mutt/muttrc
folder-hook . 'set index_format="%4C %Z%?y?@& ? %{%b %d} %-15.15L
%?M?>#%03M<&(%4l)? %s"' # used to be hdr_format
folder-hook (linux|suse|stories|magick|webcalendar) 'set index_format="%4C
%Z%?y?@& ? %{%b %d} %-3.3L %?M?>#%03M<&(%3c)? %s"' # ugh; long subject
lines
folder-hook (taxinfo|freenet) 'set index_format="%?y?[ %-11.11y ]&%4C %Z %{%b
%d}? %-3.3L %?M?>#%03M<&(%3c)? %s"' # let's see the tips
folder-hook (job) 'set index_format="%?y?[ %-11.11y ]&%4C %Z %{%b %d}?
%-8.8L %?M?>#%03M<&(%4l)? %s"' # let's see the tips
folder-hook (imap://skip|skip/Maildir) 'set index_format="%4C %Z%?y?@&
? %{%b %d} %-15.15L %?M?>#%03M<&(%3c)? %s"' # for checking his mail while
he is gone (maildir does not show how many lines)
...
% I use procmail for sorting incoming mail.
4) You could pump qualifying messages through sed to remove anything
between [] or, more safely, only certain List IDs that you specify
(or, actually, probably do it all within procmail with some magic I
still don't yet understand but have seen here and there.]
