This doesn't address your problem, but you might find interesting
Anatoly Vorobey's recent patch to <read-thread> and <read-subthread> so
they obey $resolve. It's in msgid <20030811052722.GA5891@xxxxxxxxx> on
mutt-dev, and was accepted to CVS just 5 days ago.
