It's a possibility, but I think an unlikely one, since you're
correctly encoding your $realname with characters that are perfectly
unremarkable. Without more information, it's hard to be sure what
their problem was. They could also be having trouble sending email to
an address at the .es TLD (they could have a broken DNS setup or a
broken email program, or who knows what).
