mutt & /var/spool/clientmqueue

I configured mutt, fetchmail and sendmail
on Slackware 11.0. If I send an e-mail while
I'm connected, the delivery is immediate.
If I'm not connected, Mutt requires more
or less a minute to send the message at
/var/spool/clientmqueue. It seems to me
that this time is too long. Do you think
there is something wrong? What can it be?
Is it regular that Mutt take a whole minute
to read the MX record of an e-mail?
There is something to change in .muttrc?
Or in .sendmail?

Thanx
M.
