Problem with maildir and extra trailing /

Hi

I switched to use the maildir format and I'm very happy with it. The
only problem I have is that sometimes the folder name is given as:

   ~/Mail/Mutt

and other times:

   ~/Mail/Mutt/

This leads to problems with my folder-hooks. Is there a way to get this
consistent?
