1) mutt 1.4i inside xterm on Red Hat 9
2) Setting LANG=en_US.UTF-8 substitutes the "-", now disappeared
character with an "a" with a "^" over it (sorry, can't remember its
name)
3) the env command gives what follows:
TERM=xterm
SHELL=/bin/bash
HISTSIZE=1000
WINDOWID=8388646
QTDIR=/usr/lib/qt-3.1
USER=marco
LS_COLORS= [snipped]

LANG=en_US
SSH_ASKPASS=/usr/libexec/openssh/gnome-ssh-askpass

LOGNAME=marco
LESSOPEN=|/usr/bin/lesspipe.sh %s
DISPLAY=:0.0
G_BROKEN_FILENAMES=1
XAUTHORITY=/home/marco/.Xauthority
_=/bin/env
4) mutt -v output:
[marco@polaris marco]$ mutt -v
