 Can you still reproduce that with the latest version? The value of $mask
 is only relevant for the browser, not for new mail detection. Mutt expands
 =.foo using the current value of $folder already at parse time without
 taking $mask into account. Maybe mutt just needs some time to poll for new
 mail at all (using $mail_check and $timeout)?
