Change of "important" character

Could somebody please tell me which file(s) to i have to touch in
source in order to change the "important" character from "!" to
something thicker?

Are these the all & only the minimum number of files .

  hook.c
  muttlib.c
  crypt-gpgme.c
  complete.c
  init.c
  browser.c
  pgpkey.c
  flags.c
  hdrline.c
  pattern.c

... which are needed to be changed?  I searched for "'!'" and removed
some of inconsequential files from the above list based on educated(?)
guess  ...

  intl/plural.y
  intl/plural.c
  INSTALL

Alternatively, is there any way to change the color (thus the font)
only of the '!' (keeping other colors unchanged)?
