Yes:

image/*; gimv %s

Ditto without that and using the one in /etc/mailcap:

image/jpeg; gimv '%s'; test=test -n "$DISPLAY"

Looking at this more closely, I can see that an error message
is displayed by gimv, but it immediately disappears (so that
it was difficult to see):

** (gimv:15192): WARNING **: No image file is specified!!

Hmmm... I've changed the .mailcap entry to

image/*; echo %s && sleep 60

Then I get the filename: /var/tmp/__iso-8859-1_Q_128-2801_5FIMG.JPG__

The file exists and is a JPEG file (according to the "file" command)
as expected, but gimv refuses to open it! In fact, one needs the -e
option to ignore the extension so that gimv can open the file (silly
default...). So, I'm closing the bug.

Regards,
