Subject: Michigan legislature considers bill to hamstring municipal
wireless
There is a project underway,
Wireless Washtenaw, to bring
wireless Internet to the whole county,
including the city of Ann Arbor.
A similar effort is going on in
Oakland County.
Now the Michigan state legislature
is considering a bill to curtail or
prohibit such activity. Hearings this
Tuesday and Wednesday, a vote
next week. (Your bets on which RBOC
might be behind this one.)
This even in the face of San Francisco,
Philadelphia, and Portland all issuing
RFQs or RFPs for similar services.
See

for the coverage and details I've
been able to unearth so far; there's no
email list yet to coordinate a response
though I expect something will come up
in its usual way.

news in general.
