Subject: Coordination, strong radio network helping fight Topanga fire
Dave, as noted in:

the handling of the ongoing (but rapidly improving) "Topanga Fire"
has been a textbook example of the correct way to manage this kind
of emergency, with amazing results so far -- 10s of 1000s of acres
burned, much of the fire in the *immediate* vicinity of homes, but
only a few structures destroyed.
At one point, fire was within about 2K feet (as the crow flies, the
intervening terrain is not flat) of my location. No fun, but it
could have been far, far worse.
Coordination -- communication -- planning, and thousands of brave
firefighters and a number of extraordinary pilots, have been key.
