Dave,

 This article is a classic example of how right-wing think tanks so
dominate media discourse that the news often seems to be reduced to
squabbles between varying factions on the right. I wrote the author a
letter (cc'ing the Chronicle's reader representative), which I then
posted to Seeing The Forest, a blog I write for, at
http://www.seeingtheforest.com/archives/2005/07/letter_to_a_chr.htm

 The letter starts thusly:

'I'm wondering why you couldn't find a single "left of center-right"
economist, think tank representative, or private sector critic to quote as
a source in this article.'

We really need to hold our media to a higher standard in terms of citing
a diversity of sources. Letters like this are the first step towards
restoring balance in the media's coverage of issues of this sort.
