Just another thought;-)...
In social terms, the cut-over from ARPANET to INTERNET was smooth enough
to not remain a public memorable event.
In technical terms it was a watershed great divide between two universes
in terms of the expanded horizons that thereafter existed and which have
been usefully, though only partially, exploited so far!
It also came with some very interesting paradigm shifts, the largest
shift
being the loss of a central control point. Thereafter, there was no
Center of
The Internet where one might locate a Central Control Room, because the
Internet is a network of networks, each with an independent
owner/controller.
Internet stability demands mutual interest and cooperation, or it will
not
work as a global (or galactic) connectivity infrastructure.
The transmogrification has produced the rich environment for all manner
of human social evolution, which is certainly worthy of celebration.
I am truly grateful for all the opportunities I have found there-in.
Cheers!-)...\Stef

Dave,
There was a lot of great work done on both the Arpanet (packet
switching)
and the Internet (internetworking), and lots of people deserve credit.
But the packets in 1969 were not internet packets, had no internet
addressing, could not have been forwarded to a different network,
etc., etc.
This is rather like dating television back to Marconi -- a stretch.
