The item you posted earlier asked:
"
Did you know that
"1) All American cars since 1996 have a data port connector under the dash
that is standardized?"

Answer, yes. It's required by law. Some earlier models also have ODB II
connectors.

My own questions to that author:
Did you know that, prior to 1996, many American cars had non-standardized
data ports?

Did you know that the standard data port connector was imposed, by law, on the country by liberal activists in the EPA who were concerned about air
pollution? See <http://www.obdii.com/background.html#Where>.

Did you know that, although ODB II is supposed to be standard, many of the variables are unique to specific manufacturers, and you need to buy multiple software packages to be able to properly interpret the data for cars from
multiple manufacturers?

Did you know that if you have an ODB II port on your car, you can hook a PC
up to it and read and reset trouble codes (MIL)?

Did you know that the ODB II port is a nice tool for tuning engines? (Beats
a tach!)

Did you know that the ODB II connector sucks and that a USB port connector
would probably be a better idea?
