[alac-forum] TLD Suggestions

Greetings!

Submitted for your consideration are two possible new
TLDs. Both represent large segments of the world's
population:

.rel, for religious sites
.fam, for family homepages

If a religious organization had an undisputed central
authority [the Roman Catholic Church, for example],
that organization would be allowed first refusal of
the domain name [for example, rcc.rel, vatican.rel, or
catholic.rel]. However, it would only be given the
priority option for *one* domain name. Thus, if the
Vatican chose rcc.rel, it would have to take its
chances on catholic.rel, and might not get it if
another "Catholic Church" put in an application first.
Determining which would be legitimate users of a .rel
domain could be decided by the same process currently
used to settle domain disputes. If there was not a
central authority [Buddhism, for example, or Wicca],
then names would be available on the standard
first-come-first-served basis.

.fam sites would be for the exclusive use of people
with that particular last name. The person
registering the domain would have to present proof
that s/he actually had the family name in question,
and would likewise be required to set up a site within
a certain set period or lose the right to that domain
permanently. Again, the domain name would be
available on the standard first-come-first-served
basis.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Berra Jr. [who'd like to have this be
considered official notice of his intent to claim
berra.fam, should it ever become available]
