then try following which "works for me  :^)":

account-hook imap://niko@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/ 'set imap_user niko imap_pass=secret'

if that fails, set:

mailboxes 'imap://niko:secret@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/INBOX'

and go there as you would any other folder, selecting it from the list.
